History & Architecture
Bungalows, Victorians, and design review.
Within the local historic district, exterior changes — additions, new construction, windows, demolition — go through the City of Tampa's historic preservation review. That protects the streetscape, and it also means renovation plans need more time and care than elsewhere in the city.
Daily Life
The village and the bay.
Hyde Park Village, the open-air shopping district at the neighborhood's center, has restaurants, boutiques, and a weekend fresh market. A few blocks east, Bayshore Boulevard's 4.5-mile, 10-foot-wide sidewalk — one of the longest continuous sidewalks in the country — draws runners, walkers, and cyclists every morning.
- Hyde Park Village shops, restaurants, and events
- Bayshore Boulevard's waterfront sidewalk
- SoHo (South Howard Avenue) restaurants and nightlife
- The University of Tampa and Plant Park across the river
- Downtown Tampa and the Riverwalk a short drive or bike ride away
- Plant High School zoning for much of the neighborhood
Homes
What's for sale in Hyde Park.
Inventory includes restored historic homes, sensitively built new homes on infill lots, townhomes, and condominiums near Bayshore and the village. Lots are often narrow, and homes a block apart can differ sharply in age, condition, and renovation history.
Bayshore-facing properties and fully restored historic homes trade at a premium; homes needing major work can carry hidden costs in wiring, plumbing, foundations, and the approvals needed to update them.
