The Community

Big trees, lakes, and room to breathe.

Developer Matt Jetton founded Carrollwood in 1959 beside spring-fed Lake Carroll, planning one of the first modern suburban communities in the Tampa area. From 1959 through 1970 more than 900 homes were built, and around 1970 he launched a sister community, Carrollwood Village, on land to the northwest.

Today the census area called Carrollwood takes in both, with 34,352 residents at the 2020 census. The original neighborhoods are known for tall oaks, lake access, and ranch homes on generous lots; Carrollwood Village added golf, larger homes, and newer enclaves.

Daily Life

Parks, lakes, and a quiet rhythm.

Carrollwood Village Park, Lake Carroll, and the area's smaller lakes shape weekends here. Dale Mabry Highway and North Dale Mabry's shopping corridor are close, and the Veterans Expressway gives a quick run to the airport and Westshore.

Homes

Original lots and newer enclaves.

Original Carrollwood is mostly 1960s and 1970s ranch homes on large, tree-covered lots, many updated or rebuilt. Carrollwood Village and later enclaves add homes from the 1970s through the 2000s, including golf-course and gated neighborhoods.

Lakefront homes are the most sought after. Older homes may need updates to plumbing, electrical, and roofs, and mature trees bring both shade and maintenance.
